Effectively Grounded describes an electrical system that is intentionally and securely connected to the earth (ground) in a way that limits voltage during fault conditions and ensures the quick operation of overcurrent devices. This minimizes the risk of electric shock and equipment damage in both residential and commercial electrical systems.
In practical terms, an effectively grounded system helps provide a low-impedance path for fault currents, allowing circuit breakers or fuses to trip as needed. For example, in a home wiring system, grounding conductors connect outlets and appliances to the grounding electrode system, ensuring safety during a short circuit.
