What is Strut?
A strut, often referred to as a strut channel or Unistrut, is a standardized structural system widely used in electrical installations to mount and support electrical conduit, junction boxes, lighting systems, and other equipment. Made typically of galvanized steel or aluminum, struts provide a strong, reliable method for organizing and securing components in both residential and commercial electrical projects.
Electricians use struts to ensure electrical components are neatly arranged and remain stable over time, especially in industrial or exposed settings like basements, garages, or utility rooms. These channels allow for easy adjustments, additions, and future maintenance since they are compatible with a wide range of brackets, fasteners, and connectors.
